About Us

Our Work

Our Work has Impact - Annually, Arts for Learning Connecticut serves 200,000+ individuals by providing arts-based programming to schools, libraries, community centers, public housing complexes and other youth- and family-serving organizations throughout the state. We work in partnership with educators, local professional artists, community leaders and funders to create programs that combine classroom study, performances, workshops and residencies in a wide variety of arts disciplines that connect to aspects of learning throughout the school day and beyond. Our professional teaching artists deliver artistically excellent and educationally relevant work in music, dance and movement, theater arts, storytelling, visual arts and digital arts. For educators, we offer professional development in arts integration.

Why the Arts? - Our passion for arts in education is based in its transformative power. The arts honors the uniqueness of each individual, invites opportunities to control learning through creative choices, and allows young people to explore a variety of ways to communicate. The arts inspire young people and expand their learning so that they can lead healthy, fulfilling and productive lives. Arts integration is also a valuable tool for reaching multiple learning styles across the curriculum and is linked to enhanced academic outcomes and social/emotional development for children, including those with special needs.

The arts can help transform communities. Arts engagement among families and people of all ages promotes social cohesion and fosters a sense of permanence, pride and place. Activities such as learning a new art form, creating a collaborative public work of art, and celebrating different cultural traditions brings joy and inspiration to people’s lives.
