The Magic of the Harp
The harp, known as the Queen of the instrument world, was invented over 5000 years ago and soon spread to cultures all around the globe. Wendy explores the amazing history of the harp, the varied types of music it can play, the stories it can tell, and the science of how the harp creates music. The program includes numerous opportunities for student participation.
A Harp and the Holidays
Wendy explores the music of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, with music from all around the world and discussion of the history of the music and of the holidays. How does music add to the celebrations? Wendy also shares the amazing history of the harp, and the science of how the harp creates music. The program includes numerous opportunities for student participation and seeks to encourage appreciation of other cultures and religions.

About the Artist
WENDY KERNER began the harp at the age of seven, and started performing educational programs while still a student at Juilliard, where she received her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in Harp Performance. She maintains an active teaching studio in Wilton, CT and her students have won numerous awards for harp performance. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Harp at Sacred Heart University. Wendy is the Founder and Director of the Elyrica Summer Harp Music Program, the Co-President of the CT Chapter of the American Harp Society, and the Principal Harpist with The Norwalk and Ridgefield Symphonies. Wendy has worked with Arts for Learning for many years, as a solo artist, and with the groups Themselves and The Amazing Math Wizards. Wendy was presented in her New York Debut in Carnegie Recital Hall as a winner of the Artists International Competition. She has performed throughout this country and abroad, performed at the World Harp Congress in Paris, France, and Seattle, Washington, and played for the Prime Minister of Ireland, Queen Sirikit of Thailand, and other dignitaries. Her CD "Sounds of the Seine" with flutist Donna Milanovich is available on the Delos International label.
