Little Red Riding Hood w/ Lollipop Opera | New Milford
Educational Content: “Little Red Riding Hood” is an exciting version of the classic tale, with opportunities for the audience to interact. This popular opera by Seymour Barab explores themes such as the importance of listening to your parents, and the consequences of making bad choices.
The program begins with a brief talk about opera – what opera is, and how we use music in opera to express ideas and emotions. During the talk, interactive elements of the show will be explained so the children may participate. Students will be given specific examples to listen for in the opera that show how music represents an idea, character, or emotion. Students will learn how opera is different from musical theater, and that opera was the predecessor to musical theater. Students will be encouraged to ask questions after the performance regarding the singers, the music, and how visual art contributes to the production through use of the sets and costumes.
