5 weeks of summer arts learning: New Britain’s Summer Learning Experiences and first-ever Level Up!

This summer, Arts for Learning Connecticut continued it’s partnership with the Consolidated School District of New Britain for an expansive Summer Learning Experiences session—and it was a huge success!

We enrolled 10 Teaching Artists from across the creative spectrum—dancers, spoken word poets, photographers and visual artists, theatre-makers, storytellers and designers!—for five weeks of daily arts learning and enrichment programs with hundreds of New Britain students, grades Kindergarten through 8th. Students in the program faced a difficult year in 2020-21 with COVID-19’s distance learning and its associated challenges. Through SLE and the all-new Level Up (extending the regular summer programming by 2 weeks), these young people had the opportunity to make up for lost time during the year, and avoid “summer slide” going forward.

We are so grateful for our dedicated, hard-working, talented Teaching Artists who continue to serve students and schools with enthusiasm, passion, and endless creativity; we can’t wait to see what next summer holds!
