Hamden, CT— Arts for Learning CT (AFLCT) is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a $7,000 grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation’s Southbury Community Trust Fund. This funding will support the “Tell Your Story” workshops and performances at Pomperaug Elementary School in Southbury.

“Tell Your Story” is a multi-faceted initiative bringing five diverse Teaching Artists to deliver 30 hands-on workshops exploring art forms such as dance, storytelling, and poetry while connecting to the English language Arts curriculum and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies like self-awareness, empathy, and communication. The program also includes two inspiring school performances celebrating the personal narratives of the cohort of over 400 students, creating a shared experience for the entire school.

Built on AFLCT’s 15-year partnership with Pomperaug Elementary, this project addresses systemic inequities in arts access, particularly for students facing socioeconomic and learning challenges. Providing 1,940 hours of meaningful arts programming, “Tell Your Story” aims to improve engagement, academic outcomes, and cultural connection while strengthening the school’s inclusive learning environment.
